Baby Car Seat vs Stroller, pt 3.

After much deliberations, we finally bought Natey’s car seat last Saturday at Jusco. We — I meant Me — have been going back and forth for a few weeks between Combi Coccoro (2nd choice), Sweet Cherry Bianca (3rd choice) and Halford Zeus (4th choice).

If you remember back in December last year, our original 1st choice daydream car seat was Concord Ultimax. But at the end, our wallet decided on Bianca. Hopefully our Made in Malaysia car seat would not disappoint us.

Desire vs Affordability

Concord Ultimax CarseatSweet Cherry Bianca Carseat

Ultimax RM1,599 | Bianca RM299

I have been Natey’s car seat since the 1st day — when he was 5 days old, today 113! — he rode home from the hospital. Whether being cuddled in my arms, bundled in the baby sling or carried with the BabyBjörn, Natey always had direct contact with his Mommy’s warmth. So it shouldn’t be a surprise when he made a big fuss sitting on his own.

It started out fine. Daddy buckled him in forward facing, we drove to pack dinner nearby, then the whiny sound began. In an instant, the I-don’t-like-it cry exploded! To no avail, he was back on my lap all the way home.

The car seat is now in Natey’s nursery so I can give him daily car seat training. And I think it is great! Because I can let him sit upright without worry. These days he just refuses to lie down and wants to be upright most of the time. When will he learn to flip?

Natey says: Mommy, can we keep this here? :)

Mommy says: Baby, that’s my thought exactly!

Daddy dearest, can we keep the car seat at home during the weekdays? It shouldn’t be too much hassle to bring it up and down 13 floors right? *bat eyelashes*

Only until Bumbo arrives, I promise! ;)

Added 28/6/10, 2.26pm:
Car seat training was a success. After a week of sitting on Bianca in his nursery, Natey can be buckled in without problem for 2 weekends outing.

If you have the same problem, try what we did! ;)

paul decided to get a halford zeus and we’ll wait for the coming mega sale in august. color: black and khaki. sale price should be RM535 with a 20% off.
we’re doing without an infant carrier.

baby cot came in last week. after browsing hundreds of them, i decided on the ikea hensvik. decided not to be overly picky and the size of the mattress is 120cm x 60cm. price: RM399 cot alone. it’s not the most economical one around but it should be good enough until the kiddo outgrows it or rather when i get bored of it. heh.

think i rather get whatever is essential for a newborn when i can before i get heavily pregnant. speaking of which, my clothes are snug. arrgh.

Ling,

We nearly got Zeus too but didn’t quite like the material. Suede is hot and hard to clean. The other smooth material I think is PVC.

Dun need infant carrier since you won’t be out that much. You’ll probably be the carrier hehe

I cannot stress enough. Get a Rocking Chair! Seriously you will thank me later. My Ikea Poang has been a bliss. Frame RM500 and cushion, you choose.

started looking for a glider also a rocking chair earlier on. why the heck are furniture (and other stuff) so darn pricey in malaysia is beyond me.
the only glider i found so far is the ones selling in bebehaus and mothercare.
both the models cost over a grand… i’m sure you’ve seen those.
a glider or a rocking chair is definitely helpful, no doubt. this is something i don’t mind getting pre-owned.

the alternative is ikea poang and i have yet to figure out where to put it in the nursery. was planning on getting it the next time i’m around that area. you know, the workroom is now also the nursery and the guest room!

what happened to the 3rd bedroom? we’ve got way too many clothes and a few huge luggages :P

Glider is also a good choice. I sat on the one at Babehaus and fell in love. But got heart attack when I saw the price tag and immediate jumped off. And I was 9 months pregnant then LOL

You’ll want your glider/rocking chair in your room cause your son will be sleeping with you. Trust me. You won’t have the energy to run back and forth.

My room now is a warzone with limited walking space. His cot, rocking chair, our queen size bed, the bedside table drawers as his baby clothes storage and our wardrobe. Just imagine how cramp it is. Yours will be too. At least for the first year!

I had at 15 floor plans for the nursery. Did it all in Illustrator. At the end, everything is inside our room. Now his nursery is the playroom :P

if only i can find a glider that is affordable, man. yeah, rm1,600 at bebehaus or something exorbitant like that. siau.

i told paul today that the chair needs to be in the ‘almost-all-in-one’ room for the same reason you said… and he’s suggested that the chair goes into the living room. we’re having the playpen in the living room for the baby’s afternoon siesta (so i can watch him closely). – chair next to the playpen.

i so suspect he loves the glider (if we’re getting one) more than i see the need for it/ i love it so. ah well…. he thinks i can watch tv while breastfeeding (???) yea… that’s the father of my child. buh-hahaha.

when the time comes, we’ll know what to do … also means, i know to nag :P
