the melodramatic mouse attempts to blog
Most of us have probably heard of this century old tradition practiced by the Indonesian and Malay mommies after delivery. I for one — like many out there — knows about it vaguely and not completely.
So do I need it or do I not? The opinions vary among friends I know that engaged in an Urut Lady and those that did not.
What is Postnatal Massage? The Urut.
This treatment involves the use of massage oil applied to the stomach, then wrapped tightly with the Bengkung — a cotton cloth of several meters — for a few good hours after each sessions.
The tightly wrapped Bengkung helps to push the uterus to its former position, clear water retention, wind, spasm, shrinks the tummy and ideally to reduce weight.
Benefits of The Urut
Relaxation
Stress Relief
Relieves aches on shoulders or neck
Hasten the reduction of fluid retention
Help uterus to shrink to original size
Reduce cellulite and help to tone up the body
Doesn’t this therapy sounds like a life saver?
However, I should warn that the first few times are painfully torturous — by far worst than Labour Contractions. Especially if the uterus has shifted very low during the pregnancy, and the Lady needs to lift it back up with extra push! *screams in pain*
The therapy is advisable to begin a few days after normal delivery (ASAP) and done consecutively over a course of few days to see the best result. So that means, I’ll be marinated with massage oil and soaked with sweats for 1 whole month without bathing! *horror* *ugh*
Besides being massaged and mummified, the Lady will also be doing a Hot Stone Therapy. The entire session varies between different Urut Ladies. It can go on for about an hour up to 3 hours depending on the fees. And how many times to do it? That depends on the individual. I’m thinking of 5x.
I’ll share my review in Part 2, next March 2010. If she’s really good, I’ll surely include her contact here
