30 Nov 2009The first time I realised that my feet was swollen, was the weekend after our baby shopping began. Then the 2nd time happened after going to Pureen Warehouse Clearance.
Why It Happens?
Our feet swells during pregnancy because of water retention. This symptom is called edema, where extra fluid are collected in the tissue.
This happens because the weight of our uterus and baby put pressure on the veins that lead to our legs. And this makes circulation to slow down and blood to pool in the legs.
And now the 3rd time was last Friday, after going to myBBstore’s Grand BB Sale during the day and to Ikea after dinner to complete the nursery’s furniture.
A little off the topic: We were so excited after coming home from Ikea that night, I got the husband to fix up LBJ’s cot! I’m so happy that the nursery is slowly coming to life ♥ What’s missing now is the Little Hero himself — another 94 days more to go — and definitely some wall paintings that the husband has promised
Ok back to my swollen feet. It always subsides after resting for 1-2 days. I suspect that it happens because I walked too much — all the sale excitement! — especially now with the extra burden on my poor tiny feet. They ache immediately after a mere 2 minute standing! *pouts*
How To Deal With It
Rest on the left side and put my feet up whenever possible.
Stretch my legs, rotate the ankles, wiggle my toes and flex my feet when sitting. If seated for a long period of time, get up and walk around.
Wear comfortable shoes that don’t constrict the swollen feet. Don’t wear tight socks.
Drink lots of water, avoid sodium and junk food.
It has been 2 days now. Hopefully the swelling will go away so I don’t have to walk on ballooned soles — that’s how the base of my feet feels like — any longer *ouch*
