the melodramatic mouse is now mellomom
In exactly 2 weeks, Natey will be turning 6 months. Yup, time flies! That marks a new milestone as his small tummy will be ready for a meal of solids besides his daily breastfed diet *yum*
Why 6 months?
Baby’s intestines need to mature
Young babies have a tongue-thrust reflex
Baby’s swallowing mechanism is immature
Young infants are not equipped to chew
First Foods suitable for 6-8 month old Baby
Cereals & Grains
Rice — Barley — OatsFruits
Avocado — Apricots — Apples — Bananas — Mangos

Citrus Fruits & Strawberries
Shellfish: Scallops, Mussels, Crabs and Prawns
Now that I know what’s good and what’s not, I’ve yet to decide which exactly to begin with as Natey’s first food. Throw dice? *hmm*
Rice cereal is the most common first food choice and a Carbohydrate. After doing much reading, I might consider skipping this since breastmilk itself is a high source of Carbo. What’s recommended is Protein, and that would be Meat.
By supplementing meat as a first food, our babies will receive the much needed Protein, Zinc, Iron and Vitamin B when the intake of breastmilk reduces. Heme Iron found in meat is also better absorbed by infants, and helps absorb iron from other food easily. Furthermore, meat has a smaller risk of allergic reaction. Read more on this, click here.
So much information to digest! And I’m not even done reading yet *faints* Turkey is better than chicken, and lamb is better than beef. How about kampung chicken leh?
Ok that aside, we know everything needs to be blended and pureed for our baby’s toothless palate. Here’s what I was previously considering before I went all gaga over the combined Steamer & Blender.

Just what I need to know! I’m starting my research on solids too but you just made life easier for me
I bought the baby cubes from FM recently but they’re out of stock. They will probably arrived end of August or early September.
By the way, I read somewhere that meat is not recommended for babies aged below 8 months old. I’ll do more research on it. Ewan is definitely going on rice cereal first since his tolerance level to skin allergy isn’t that great.

I found that meat article from KellyMom.com. I doubt I would start Natey on meat first too. Rice cereal is definitely the easiest
Let’s compare notes!
