It seems like these days, my mind and blog, is all about Scubby. I’ve joined a forum this week *hooray* And since then, the husband complained that that’s all I ever do. I’ve become a forum junkie *horrified*

It’s really nice to know that there are a lot of other Westie owners/lovers in Klang Valley itself. Now I don’t have to worry that Scubby has no relatives in town. Already now – even before I bring him home – he already has a handful of eager cousins. Looks like my little boy would be more happening than his adopted human mother (^__^)

I am still counting the days. Nine to be exact. The excitement mixed with fear is quite nauseating. I wonder if this is how it feels like to be an expecting parent. Even if it is for a furkid, nontheless it is a living being with feelings and emotions. Most of the time, it is our pet that makes us more human. Do you not agree? *winks*

With Cesar Millan, Puppy Training Manuals, Kennel Club Book of West Highland White Terrier and new friends from Lowyat.net, I hope I am all and ready to be Scubby’s pack leader

I am so excited! Can you feel it too? Next Sunday is almost here, and it’s been almost a month long wait. Can’t say that I don’t feel afraid as well, it’s been such a long time since I had a puppy.

Back then we didn’t have guidebooks or easy internet access on how to raise a puppy, or even understanding the dog psychology. So it’s not surprising that many people got it all wrong. And still do!

Dog lives in the moment and is an animal of habits. Don’t bother punishing him if you found his mess, because he won’t remember – unless caught in the act. There’s so much more to learn!

The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan Guide:

I am the pack leader! *woof*

Dog needs exercise, discipline and affection (exactly this order)

I must set rules, boundaries and limitations

Nose, Eyes and Ears – they smell first, see second and hear last

Dogs are not human *duh*

Fingers crossed that I am all set to be a good parent to my furkid. If I can’t be one to my dog, how else can I be to my child. Make any sense? *winks*

I had my first puppy – or half, since I shared with my sister – when I was around six. She was a black mongrel which I can’t recall her name. The second was Sparkie, a white mongrel when I was ten. Unfortunately – for reasons best left unspoken – we didn’t have them for a very long period of time. At 13, we had Miko – a black Miniature Pinscher that wore four brown boots – and like my age, we had her for 13 years.

Can anyone not like dogs? I know I’m guilty at times, but I love dogs. I’ve been doing a lot of research lately since my heart was stolen by them two weeks back. And after finding out that my condo’s management allowed pets – which original stated NO in our S&P – I am now more determined to have her. But before I do, I am going to do my part and learn how to be a pack leader!

This is the cycle of a newborn puppy: they are born with an open nose for smell, that is how they know the scent of their mother and where to move for milk; after 15 days, they open their eyes to see; 21 days later, their ears are able to hear sounds and distinguish it.

The order of how a dog relate to its surrounding is established since birth: Nose, Eyes and Ears – they smell first, see second and hear last.

I’m still trying to decide what dog we should get. We, includes the husband, the sister – since she wants to share, this time 1/3 – and myself. If given the choice, the husband wants his Beagle, the sister – a Westie, and I – a Jack Russell. The best choice of the three would be Westie, because of its size and temperament. A friend knows a breeder for Toy Poodle, which seems more perfect but I am not too keen.

If you know any breeder for dogs – preferably miniature or toy – do let me know. I’ve never bought a dog from the pet shop before, and have every intention not to. We wanted to adopt one at SPCA – which we went on Saturday – but they are all too big for condo living

So now, it’s all about the fate *woof*
