Nursery Rhymes, pt 2 – He Sings!

Two years ago when Natey was still LBJ in utero, I started singing nursery rhymes to him. Everyday I sang the same 84 rhymes to him — played from my iTunes — until I was singing in my sleep! Until I was literally sick of them too, but it is all worth it today.

A few weeks back, I had the pleasant surprise of my once Little Benjac Junior singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to me. He beamed and waited for me to say, “Clever Boy!” and indeed he is our clever boy ♥

At 20mo, he can complete that rhyme on his own and partially of Baa Baa Black Sheep, Goosey Goosey Gander, Round and Round the Garden, Incy Wincy Spider, Humpty Dumpty, Row Row Row your Boat, Hickory Dickory Dock and Barney’s I Love You. He could even sing the chorus of the 1Malaysia song *LOL*

Natey sings all the time and everywhere. Although missing a word here and there, and in his own silly tune, he sings proudly nonetheless. This morning during our daily swim, I finally managed to record him singing before he shy away after realising that he attracted an audience

Natey aka LBJ was 36weeks then

I was going through Natey’s photo last night and stumbled on this 8 days old photo of him below *aww* Then I went on to dig out the photo above with the post I photoblogged about a year ago. It really seems too surreal that it actually happened.

I was 9 months pregnant, waddling around the house clumsily and still got around to set up the bookset on the balcony to take pictures. Not to mention that I had a very nosy Scubby in my way too

I know I had to blog about this when morning comes. So I whipped out my camera after breakfast, gave the over excited Natey his book — he recognised himself immediately — and snapped away!

But is it as good as it looks?

My Verdict:

We bought this for Natey when he was 6mo in attempt to kick start his potty training. After a few weeks of trying, I raised the white flag not understanding why he cried everytime seated on it.

I failed to realise the reason until my Mom pointed out the problem was due to the shape of the seater. Shouldn’t it be round or almost round? No wonder Natey was unhappy. I would be uncomfortable sitting on an elongated frame too.

Combi did a great job packaging this potty, but I’m disappointed to say that they failed to consider “comfortability” when they designed this. The handle is a plus point and the colours are appealing, but the sole purpose of a potty is to sit on it. What good is it if it’s only for admiration? *hmm*

Would I still recommend this? Yes and No.
1) Yes. But I recommend waiting until your baby has a more stable bowel movement, or when he can tell you that he needs to go so less time is spent sitting.
2) No because for RM199, this should be perfect.

Natey was still doing his deeds 2-4x daily until he was 9 months. It wasn’t an easy attempt potty training then because there were no fixed time. But it is possible for some because my friend’s son did it at 7mo!

After months (since 3mo) of saying “Poo Poo, Poo Poo” to Natey while he goes, he now tells me that when he needs to poo poo. And off we go to the his Combi potty! *yay*

Here’s a little fun when Combi is off from work. It turns into a specimen for curious hands. Natey loves his Combi, especially the lid

Recently Natey has started this very bad habit of grinding his teeth while awake. He now has 1.5 upper (Bugs Bunny style!) and 2 lower front teeth.

Although it reads that teeth grinding amongst babies are fine — they will drop off anyway — but the sound is disturbing; like running your fingernails on a white board! *shudders*

“In general, grinding the baby teeth is not a problem. It is often a sign of teething, very likely for a 12 month old. When he starts losing his baby teeth, the grinding should stop — if it even lasts that long.”

I tried telling him No whenever I hear him grind. I give him the teether hoping it’ll help divert his attention. But obviously grinding is much more fun *ouch*

This uber cute walker/rider is a gift from the husband’s boss (ex now) back in May last year. He came to see our Baby Tiger with girlfriend JeongEun when she was in Malaysia. Natey was only 3 months then.

After almost 7 months of pure sit and play — pulling the 3 ribbons of the Playskool character — Natey finally stood up and took it for a walk this morning

I’ve not heard this kiddy tune since I was a kiddy myself. Yet it has stayed with me all these time! When Stephen sang it to Ewan yesterday during the playdate, immediately it struck a chord in me.

It is simply addictive. The song is now stuck in my head and I can’t stop singing it. That includes the hand actions as well. I can see myself in pigtail and dark blue pinafore days singing this in the car to school

Thanks Stephen, for reminding me of my almost forgotten childhood now that I’m a Mommy. I’m definitely going to infect Natey with his song too. The husband is already going nuts ~~to the point of murder~~ with his mousey wifey singing this day in, day out.

This is just the beginning. Wait till Natey learns it himself and wants to hear it every day *keke*

Today is Day 2 of Natey’s potty training. We tried it yesterday morning after he woke up, and in the evening after his afternoon nap. I would say, So Far So Good! *yay*

If you’re wondering why he’s pooing with his pants on, well, I’m still deciding the next step — I’m an analytical freak — after he has finished with his morning business. Do I carry him straight to bath? Or clean his small bumbum on the spot? *hmm*

After the 2 days of success, I shall say that tomorrow Natey will go sans pants

This book was 1st introduced to me by the writer herself, Jennifer during my confinement. I called her for a postnatal home visit — RM150 for 1.5hrs — to help me with my breastfeeding dilemma, and she was an enlightenment. Natey has been fully breastfed ever since!

Sadly, I didn’t really pay attention when she mentioned her book. Else I would have gotten this sooner and save another RM150 for Natey’s sleeping dilemma 2mths later. Not forgetting the headaches of disagreements on what should and shouldn’t be done.

My verdict:

A definite gem for every 1st time Mommies & Daddies!

This book is so relevant — for Asian, especially Malaysians — and easy to read. The best time to begin would be weeks before delivery. Then everything would stay fresh in mind. Otherwise, a handy bedside bible!

What I like about this book is the FAQ right after each tiny topic. Some questions might seem ridiculous but they were some of our doubts exactly. And I bet, it could be yours too

I highly recommend buying this book — whether as a gift, or for yourself — as it would certainly be cheaper (RM39.90) than calling Jennifer for SOS when you can get everything in these pages!

Btw, if we knew about Jenlia Maternal Services during my pregnancy, we wouldn’t have signed up for Gleneagles’ Parentcraft and somehow feel cheated of our RM180 for 3 lousy sessions. Instead pay RM310 for 4 sessions at Jenlia, with Jennifer being one for the speakers.

Since I can’t turn back time, but you are on the crossroad of deciding for yours, why not check them out

Chef Natey: Pick of the Day
Baby Hands with Mittens served in Amilase

About a month ago, Baby Natey found his hands and the latter soon found his mouth. Ever since then, it has been a daily dose of fist delicacy for him *yumyum*

According to my Mom, I grew up sans pacifier — yucky tasteless rubber — and never sucked a thumb in my life. So when Natey was spotted with this unbecoming pastime, it was easy to point the finger at Daddy *nyeknyek*

I changed 6 pairs of mittens yesterday. All soaked with saliva! How do you stop or “negotiate” with a 2monther Not to suck his thumb? Or the entire fist for that matter. 1 word — repeat after me with your cutest cooing voice — Nada.

So last night, I found a temporary solution — Bag the Little Critter! *LOL* Before you decide to brand me Bad Mommy, Natey totally enjoys it. He loves being swaddled, and now this is his new toy. He is a toy! ♥

Although this is just a Now effort, it is way better than giving him the pacifier. Which by the way, he also dislikes — half Mommy, half Daddy *eh*

Hopefully this phase of thumb/finger/fist sucking will soon pass. With babies being so smart these days, Natey will soon learn to copycat Mommy and unzip himself out
