Pregnancy Belly Cast, pt 2 – It’s Alive!

Failure is the stepping stone for success. What do you think? But maybe if we paid RM119.90 in the first place, there wouldn’t have been a failure to begin with *pokes the husband*

After our homemade Belly Cast attempt fell miserably apart on Monday, we went to Isetan at KLCC that evening itself and bought the 100% Failure Proof Baby Art Belly Kit. Thanks to the CNY Sale, we got a 10% off saving. And I got to eat my Spider Temaki! I ♥ Sushi *yums*

The boxset comes with
1 pair Gloves, 9 packets of Plaster & 1 container of Belly Gel

A super quick & easy to make keepsake that last!

Once again Scubby wonders:
Why Mommy never made a Belly Cast of me?

#1: Cut the plaster rolls into strips
(i) 15cm – Breast, (ii) 30cm – Chest, (iii) 40cm – Belly

#2: Prepare water for dipping the ready cut strips
Make sure they are not too wet when applying

#3: Press strips softly but firmly over belly
Overlap 3-4 layers to get a firm impression

#4: Satisfied with your masterpiece?
Remove carefully 15 minutes later

Voila!

And now it lays adorably in LBJ’s cot

For the final finishing touch, the belly cast would need to be sand papered for a smooth look. The husband is busy this weekend, so hopefully next week he can get it done. Unless LBJ decides to surprise us with his grand presence!

I’m planning to get it framed later — to protect it from itchy hands! — but definitely after getting a shot of LBJ lying inside! *aww*

Pregnancy Belly Cast, pt 1 – Failed Attempt!

It was the 2nd day of CNY. With not much time left before LBJ decides to greet us, the husband decided to be adventurous and immortalise a part of our 1st pregnancy *2 thumbs up*

After watching the YouTube below, he got into his “idealistic” DIY mode and his heavily pregnant wife “faith-fully” followed suit, only to be left plastered without success 2 hours later

He may be cheekily smiling here
But trust me, it’s not for long

Because 2 hours later
His DIY Belly Cast fell miserably apart!

Poor LBJ was struggling the whole time as I worked the noisy blow dryer back and forth over my baby bump. Evidently he didn’t like being cast when there were no injury occurred, or being blown dry as he enjoys being wet *heh*

So what happened after this?

If there’s a Part 1, surely there is a Part 2. The husband wouldn’t be dampened and give up that easily when it comes to his DIY obsession

Nursery Painting Project, pt 1 – Choo Choo Train.

The husband has promised to paint LBJ’s nursery since forever. And because he is always so busy, the project has been on hold since forever as well. After much nagging on my part, he finally completed the project last month! *hehe*

Initially this was the idea

But it didn’t quite worked out because of the size

Then a new idea sparked!
How about a Choo Choo Train for LBJ?

Immediately the husband got to work
Just like a dedicated artist, he sat there from 2pm to 11pm

And the results 2 days later

Wait! There’s a Part 2

Novice Sewing Adventure, pt 1.

I embarked on my first ever sewing ~~with machine~~ adventure last month after the husband recovered my Mother’s older-than-me mini sewing machine tucked away in our storeroom.

Since then, I’ve been busy polishing my crafts-person skill after not sewing — altering pants and sewing buttons not qualified — since my Form 3′s Kemahiran Hidup Project for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah Examination. If only I kept a photo — I was quite proud of that outcome! *beams*

Here’s what I’ve been up to for the past 2 weeks. Not a bad start for a sewing machine newbie

Simple-to-do coin pouches for warm up
The Butterfly and Heart shape was hand stitched

Handphone pouch with side zipper
Made from my Ikea curtain ends and inside lining with Barnslig cloth

A tiny cushion for my needles
The word Pillo was also hand stitched freehand

A Bow Bag made with my very own hands! ♥
There’s 2 pockets inside for your handphone and keys

And finally, a top view shot of everything
What is your verdict?

I’m currently having problem finding “decent” looking fabrics because everything I found was ~~scary, shinny and flowery~~ not to my liking.

I’m deciding to get another sewing machine — one that can actually sew without me cursing. This antique machine is pretty incomplete to expect it being able to do anything more. It doesn’t have or needs a bobbin, and it’s not sewing on anything thinner than the husband’s jeans *$#@%^&*

Before I ~~manipulate~~ beg the husband to buy me a new sewing machine, I have to solve the fabric issue first. So if you know of any shops — yet to try those at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman — that sells nice designer fabrics, please drop me a comment below, ok? Thanks!

Until then, you’ll be seeing more of the Red fabric

Oh btw, I took this little baby for a test run on Sunday and it was fun! My very first sewing experience with a machine after 29 years *LOL* So I finally sewed up my curtain ends, because I was too lazy to do it with a needle last year.

I wonder how long would this new found plaything would last?

Psst… I’ll be away from this screen until I’ve successfully completed what I’m starting above. Wish me luck!

I’m guilty of killing my plants. How many has it been? And it is always the same returning sickness — the leaves would be infested with tiny white bugs. I’ve changed the soil and put in organic pesticides, I even got new pots but they still die *sigh*

Would I ever have a green balcony? And I don’t mean the colour

Free Arm Sewing Machine, pt 1 – The reDiscovery.

This compact toy — not any bigger than your toaster — was my Mother’s. It has to be at least 30 years old going 40, because she had this way before becoming a mother *heh*

I don’t think the brand exist anymore because Google couldn’t find it. But we can trust anything that says Made in Japan

My Mother handed this down to me 2 years back — when I moved into my own Nest — but unfortunately, it has been forgotten in the back of our storeroom. Along with other junks…

Finally last Saturday, while reconstructing our study area, it was recovered. And it almost went into the recycle box! *phew*

I’ve yet to test this little baby out. First I’ve got to go buy batteries! It operates on two C2 1.5v batteries. And when I do, look out for Part 2

I hope it can still work! *fingers crossed*
