I was ignorant. If I didn’t watch this video yesterday, I would still be today. It is a sad awakening that majority of us are conditioned to believe that our dogs — whichever pedigree it is — has to be a carbon copy of a picture depicted by The Kennel Club. I know I was!

If the tail was longer by an inch, Failed. If the ear was slightly more apart than it should, Failed. Did you know that in the UK, they kill perfectly healthy puppies that failed these physical appearance? *horror*

Watch the video and open your eyes to the horrifying truth behind our beloved canine best friends.

In years to come, these loyal companions might just cease to exist. Because we are “breeding them to death” (01:09)!

In Malaysia itself, there are countless puppy mills — where do you think petshops get their supply from? — and home breeders (ie Irene Kang, Starhill Kennel Penang) doing the exact same selfish act.

Breeders claim to breed for the best. And maybe even for the “love” of the breed. But the Dollar $ign is never too far from its evil roots…

Irene Kang calls herself a home breeder that breeds out of love. And if you visit her website, this is what she wants you to believe.

We are a small kennel located in Penang, Malaysia.

We breed quality West Highland White Terriers, Miniature Schnauzers, Yorkshire Terriers and Aust. Silky Terriers. All our dogs are purebreds and are registered with MKA (Malaysian Kennel Association).

Our dogs have champion bloodlines and some are imported from Australia. They are bred in a cozy home environment, well socialized and given the best care and love.

We breed for quality and good temperament.

For any first time visitor to her website, surely they would be captivated — I was too! — by the many beautiful dogs she owns. Especially the photo gallery of the adorable puppies *awww*

But would you be as captivated, if you know the truth behind those innocent puppy eyes and warm soft paws?

Just minutes ago, I found out that her Westies also have the hereditary skin problem called Seborrhea from one of her recent buyers *fumes*

Here is an email from Irene Kang to myself last year before we collected Scubby, assuring me that both Ozzy and Christy is free from any skin problems.

Do you still want to buy your puppies from Irene Kang’s Starhill Kennel? With possible inherited disease awaits and inevitable emotional and financial stress to follow.

How many more lies can we tolerate? After spending thousands of Ringgits buying the “supposedly” best quality puppy…

Another buyer of Irene Kang has just contacted me with a very sad case. Her westie, Pepper (6mths old now) was born without testicles. That means Pepper will not be able to reproduce even if he wanted to *sobs*

Sadly she was not aware of Irene’s “reputation” before buying Pepper

There are already 4 cases here, puppies of Ozzy (Sire) & Christy (Dam):
1) Scubby — Canine Hip Dysplasia
2) Taco — Died from Canine Distemper Virus
3) Puffy — Seborrhea skin problem
4) Pepper — Born without testicles

Will you still buy from Irene Kang?

Unethical Breeder from Tanjong Bungah, Penang

If you have heard of her name from forums, or better still, you have visited her website. Then you would know about her Kennel (a semi detached house) being a Home of Westies, Miniature Schnauzers, Yorkshire Terriers & Silky Terriers. Do the maths *puppy mill alert!*

I am writing this post not as a promotion for her dogs, but a testimony to Irene Kang’s manipulative lies. Isn’t all businesspersons a liar at some point? Wrong move, Mrs Kang! *shakes head in disgust*

Scubby is the puppy of Ozzy and Christy. He was their 2nd litter of 5 very adorable Westie puppies born on 9 September 2008. Their 1st litter had only 2 puppies and was born on 10 February 2008.

When we brought Scubby home on 2 November 2008, I was overwhelmed with his health conditions. He had abnormal puppy rash and ear infection that lasted for 4 months, he had excessive ear wax that took 3 weeks of daily cleaning to dissolve, and he tiptoes when he walks and runs which now suspected as the hereditary Canine Hip Dysplasia.

Irene Kang promised nothing but the best of her Westies. No genetic health issues, she claimed that her Westies are the best in Malaysia. And this I can quote you her exact words: I breed only for the best, and no Westies in the Klang Valley can compare! (Note that I used the word “Best” 3x)

Then why did Scubby have all these issues? Immediately, she blamed us and our Vets. How convenient *fumes*

One of her buyers from her 1st Westie litter contacted me. She shared that their puppy (Taco), died 2 weeks after collection because he was infected with Canine Distemper Virus. She noticed Taco having all the virus’ symptoms since the very beginning. On the 2nd night itself, Taco had a seizure which Irene simply excused it as the puppy being playful. I didn’t know her Westie puppies are such talented Actors!

Did Irene Kang sell them a defected puppy at RM3,000? What did Irene Kang do? She hung up the phone on them. Washing her hands clean from any responsibilities!

Will you buy from an irresponsible breeder like Irene Kang? Probably you would. And now with this ongoing publicity, more people would do too. Because seriously, no one cares enough to say No. The puppies are just too cute…

There are no laws to protect us from unethical business people. So protect yourself by being informed. Because I just informed you!
