My Verdict:

I’m going to start by saying: Finally I am 100% happy with the outcome!

What was different from this visit compared to the first and the rest was that, I knew exactly what I wanted and the groomer obliged. I spent about 20 minutes telling Adrian how short I wanted the cut — upper body and tail — and he clipped Scubby on the spot to show me

The entire session took almost 3.5 hours. When I went to collect Scubby, he was still not done and after I asked Adrian to give his head an even shorter finish. So voila below!

Style Essentials will be moving out of Pet Safari soon to their own shoplot at Damansara Perdana this coming month. And another groomer will be taking over their current spot.

We are loving this short do — less shedding = less winterfur floor — and will definitely book Adrian again for Scubby’s next appointment *yay*

Scubby’s Grooming Journey, pt 1 – Westie Lion Cut or Not?

The first time (Aug 2008) I found out about this beautiful white terrier, it wasn’t the adorable puppies that stole my heart. But the adult West Highland White Terrier with their Lion Head, White Jacket & Skirt and pointy Carrot Tail. Just look at the 2 photos below, how can anyone not “desire” that? *swoon*

So while Scubby was growing up, my biggest excitement was one day grooming him into the Little Lion that Westies are famous for. I couldn’t wait for the day when he would look like this! And is still waiting…

Can anyone resist its Beauty?

Our journey began when Scubby was 9mo and went for his first ever professional groom. I was full of hope and waited like an eager parent outside the glass. Sadly, the higher my expectation, the bigger the disappointment. Till this day — after 9 grooming experiences – no groomer has yet to successfully transform Scubby into the Little Lion we hoped him to be *sobs*

I’ll let you be the judge too. Here are some of Scubby’s “after shots” journey from his very first grooming to the recent Saturday.

What’s your verdict?

It’s really disheartening that after all the visits — total RM790 — not one of the After Shots above resembles the famous Westie cut. The body lacked shape and has no jacket because it’s always cut too short. The tail is a bush instead of a pointy carrot *faints*

What could the excuses be? Perhaps our local groomers doesn’t know how a Westie looks like. How else do we explain the poor accuracy of the cut. Hopefully not by blaming the dog itself *shakes head in disgust*

For the last 2 visits to HOG, I was tempted to bring along some images to show the groomer as reference but worried that I would offend their expertise. There are so many Westie grooming videos from YouTube that they could refer to *sigh*

Even though Scubby is not a show dog, he is from a lineage – grand, great, great great, great great great grandparents — of champions and a pure breed. His fur may not be as thick as his predecessors because of our all year round summer, but surely he could still carry the Westie cut. I guess my idealistic pursuit of a Little Lion Scubby continues…

A friend took this shot while holidaying in Lourdes, at the almost exact time when I fell in love with this breed. Coincident, or is it Fate?

Since our 1st visit to HOG at Plaza Damas last year, we have been a returning customer because of Suvia. Sadly on our 3rd visit, she has been transfered to Subang and the groomer that day didn’t do as good a job.

This time around we decided to take Scubby all the way to Subang to find Suvia, but she has been relocated to Klang! So instead Scubby got an even better groomer — Annie Goh, Malaysian & American Certified Master Groomer *wahh* — to pamper his furry paws

After an overdue wait of 4 months this time, Scubby finally gets his furry paws pampered once again by Suvia at House of Groomers. He was so excited to get out of the house on Saturday morning, he was already waiting by his doggie bag right after breakfast

Somehow he didn’t look too excited here
Maybe he sniffed that we’re going to the vet later? *hehe*

Today’s visit to the groomer was Scubby’s little belated birthday pamper. We’ve been planning this for a while since I’ve not been well to give him a proper treat.

I was very excited for Scubby as this was only his 2nd visit to the groomer. I actually made the appointment since Monday morning for today’s make over at 11am. I’m glad this time we finally took Scubby here!

My Verdict:

We went to the House of Groomers at Plaza Damas in Sri Hartamas. Suvia was Scubby’s groomer for the day and she did a very good job!

Went we came to collect Scubby at 1.30pm, she was very kind to share some grooming and care tips with us. We were quite unhappy to find out that Amour from Style Essentials might have damaged Scubby’s fur by clipping his back during the last grooming. Stripping should be the better way.

Anyway we are very pleased with Scubby’s transformation and would definitely be back!

Total cost this time = RM80

How can anyone ever resist?

We’ve been window shopping for the “better” Pet Grooming Salon for the past year *sweats*

Unfortunately, none in Klang Valley seems to do quite right. All we could do was have faith in the Stylist and hope for the best. If it turns out poorly, the paying part is not the bigger fuss, BUT, the waiting part! *sigh*

How many months before the fur grows back?!?

My Verdict:

The grooming experience took 2 hours to complete. I would wait 4 hours if the result were more desirable!

My biggest disappointment was the undercoat being clipped too thin. Although Scubby’s fur was not as long as the 2 photos above, but it wasn’t that short either *fumes*

Secondly, the tail was not clipped at all. It is bushy instead of a neatly clipped carrot tail! Even after I told Amour, she said otherwise. Obviously she doesn’t really know how a complete Westie Cut looks like

It seems only the Lion Head was done acceptably. But you’ll have to see the actual to judge.

Total Cost was RM90. Was it worth it?

We’re going here next! *fingers crossed*
And we did 3 months later!

Yesterday was a big, big day for us! We brought Scubby to his 1st Grooming Experience at Style Essentials in Pet Safari, Ikano.

I was so nervous and excited that I couldn’t stand to be away too far. The husband teased me saying that, it is as though I’m at my son’s first day of kindergarten. Probably so! How else could I have captured all these Kodak moments if I weren’t stuck at the window
