the melodramatic mouse attempts to blog
In: Scubby
16 Jun 2009The first time I found out about this beautiful white terrier, it wasn’t the adorable puppies that stole my heart. But the adult West Highland White Terrier with their Lion Head, White Jacket & Skirt and pointy Carrot Tail ♥
How can anyone ever resist?

We’ve been window shopping for the “better” Pet Grooming Salon for the past year *sweats*
Unfortunately, none in Klang Valley seems to do quite right. All we could do was have faith in the Stylist and hope for the best. If it turns out poorly, the paying part is not the bigger fuss, BUT, the waiting part! *sigh*
How many months before the fur grows back?!?
Watch “The Make Over” videos here!
My Verdict:
The grooming experience took 2 hours to complete. I would wait 4 hours if the result were more desirable!
My biggest disappointment was the undercoat being clipped too thin. Although Scubby’s fur was not as long as the 2 photos above, but it wasn’t that short either *fumes*
Secondly, the tail was not clipped at all. It is bushy instead of a neatly clipped carrot tail! Even after I told Amour, she said otherwise. Obviously she doesn’t really know how a complete Westie Cut looks like

It seems only the Lion Head was done acceptably. But you’ll have to see the actual to judge.
Total Cost was RM90. Was it worth it?
We’re going here next! *fingers crossed*
And we did 3 months later!
A very smiley Scubby says Woof! ♥

Hey Carla,
How’s Puffy doing? Scubby don’t look as beautiful as before when he had longer fur.
The cut makes him look like a cat!

Hey HuiLing,
That naughty boy is very photogenic. But you must see him yourself to judge
The next doggie event is in August – Dogathon in UPM. See you there?

Hopefully it’ll be ok for me to go then too! Read that it is dangerous if I get bitten by dog flea now.
So are you planning to adopt another? There’s this person at LY Forum that helps dogs find good home. Not sure if you’ve heard of him, his nick is acsyen?

Hihi, found your blog thru random surfing. I think to get such lion effect, you have to do handstripping to get the fluffly effect, and how the short body fur to blend in with the skirt of the body. clipping soften their fur and make the westie more prone to skin allergy. Long term clipping of their fur make their fur soft, only through handstripping their hard coat will grow.
It is alot of work to handstrip and more expensive too. maybe u can look around whether there is any pet salon that does handstripping. Plus it takes about half a year and about 18 sessions to hv the effect of a show dog. Haha and the fluffly head of such show dogs are because of alot of CHALK or Hair product use to fluff it up!!!
Cheers!
